Happy Solstice! Here in the Northern Hemisphere, we celebrate the longest day of the year - a day of maximum solar power to bless our endeavors. This was a holy day for many cultures around the world, a window where we are most strongly connected to the light and warmth of our Sun.
I bring you a true life story today from when I walked the Camino, a pilgrimage route across Spain. (Pagan, then Christian) This story jumped out at me today and I think it’s because of perseverance. Whereas in the Spring, we celebrate the spark of life, seedlings shooting up above ground, that first burst of life force, Summer corresponds to maturation. We need to stay the course. Stamina and perseverance will see our labour bear fruit - though it can be easy to get distracted in the golden glow of summer. With a pinch of luck, we’re headed for harvest come the end of this season. And we’re not alone. More than any other season, Summer celebrates friendship, the power of people gathering intentionally and of community. If you’re stuck, ask for help. Just like in the story, your next “Camino angel” is waiting to give you a hand.
